Hannah Burns, LMSW

Have you been having difficulty connecting with yourself or others or challenges with processing emotions and responding to them in a way that feels authentic? Have you felt stuck in the “monotonous” day to day responsibilities and can’t find that sense of joy or pleasure that once was there? Do you want to take the steps to heal from past relational or traumatic wounds and begin to see yourself, others and the world through a new and empowering lens?

Well…
Hello! Welcome! I’m so happy you are here! My name is Hannah and I am a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Michigan with 5+ years of clinical experience. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biopsychology, Cognition and Neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 2017 and then dove further into my love for learning and helping others by obtaining my Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan in 2018. My previous clinical experience has allowed me to target mental health within adolescents, adults and families in both a crisis stabilization setting as a clinical supervisor of an intensive mental health treatment day program as well as in the juvenile justice system through providing long term clinical services in a residential program.  I work with my resilient clients to create a person-centered approach utilizing a trauma informed lens of practice to target treatment goals. I utilize cognitive and dialectical behavioral techniques in combination with mindfulness and somato-sensory based strategies to meet the client where they are and assist with overall emotional, mental and physical growth.

My therapeutic intentions are to provide you the tools and support to help you Explore, Transform and Transcend:

● Explore who you are, the finer details of the question: “what happened to you?”, how the symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, anger, etc. impact your daily living && begin to identify who you want to become.
● Transform your understanding or awareness towards your internal experience and external expression of self to target what truly brings you purpose or meaning in life.
● Transcend your ability to accept the reality of what is happening around you or what happened to you and foster the opportunity for you to take action-oriented steps to become “unstuck” in your unhappiness, resentment, guilt/shame, sadness, anger, etc.

You are more than just the symptoms you are experiencing. Together we can cultivate and grow your tolerance to manage daily and long-term stressors, build healthier relationships, set boundaries for self and others, challenge, refocus or reframe distressing thoughts that may have previous represented the negative lens you had regarding self, others and the world, increase your ability to regulate emotional responses through skill-based strategies and enhance overall self-esteem through self-compassion and grace.
